The Practice of Distinction

Why A Coach?

Why A Coach?A coach...

        • keeps you on course
        • gives you a different perspective
        • is someone to go to

When you're "in the game" you can't always see what you're doing...

        • A coach keeps you clear
        • A coach is there to refocus you

What is Coaching?  Coaching is taking on the commitment as if it were your own and taking a stand for the intended results.

A Coach Must

  • be clear about the intended result
  • be a stand and committed
  • be unreasonable and make unreasonable requests

    • Your Coach's job is not to tell you how - you already know how.
    • Your Coach must be straight with you (call it what it is...).  The minute that doesn't happen, the power is dissipated.
    • Your Coach needs to be intrusive when necessary.
    • Your Coaching relationship is one of commitment.
    • Your Coach must believe in you and empower you.
    • Your Coach empowers you (removes barriers - sometimes it's getting you out of the way).

How do you know you have the right Coach?  The right Coach must

  • have a proven track record
  • have the "spark"
  • be a Master of communication
  • be formally trained to be a coach
  • have a coach of their own
  • be continuously learning and growing in their profession

A coach is a person who supports me to do those things I know I have to do to reach my goals.  He is a guide, he allows me to be consistent, he allows me to raise my standards, he allows me to grow.
